But how do you know you are buying a good quality lace wig from a reputable vendor.

• Firstly the cost will tell you, if you see a full lace wig sold for less than 100pounds then it obviously fake or may be a lace front wig not a full lace wig.
• If you are buying online always check the review or testimonial of the company.       Do a search on Google or Yahoo on the company.
• If you are buying from a physical shop note what they say is 100% human hair isnt always, for example Premium Sensational  brand sells weave and lace front wigs which is labelled 100% human hair but it is not as it is mixed with some synthetic fibre hair , which is why they are not reusable and tends to matte and tangle after a month or two of usage.
• So make sure you make them aware that you want real human hair which is called Remy Human hair.
• Best to buy virgin hairs which comes in their natural colour and dye it to your preferred colour your self
• Most websites that use celebrity picture as what they are selling and also not putting the picture of the actual wig you are buying, stay away as you will most likely  not get what you have imagined. If you still want to go ahead and place an order ask for pictures of the wig.

What I do know is that, fake weaves are cheap, have a mixture of synthetic and human hair and if it is human, the hair is of very bad quality that frizzles after a few days leaving a big tangled mop.

Here are a few tips I found that might come in handy:

1. Research! Please ask around from friends, TRUSTED salonists and buy from reputable suppliers. So many in the market are offering cheap weaves all claiming to be Yaki or Remi and they greatly disappoint.Remember cheap is always expensive so if it is too cheap, think twice!
2. Check the fiber, if it is a mixture of synthetic and hair, you would know. Most stylist say, the best way to test it out is to use a flat iron on the weave. If it burns, then it is very fake. Also the smell of burning hair will help you tell whether it is real or not.
3. Many human hair weaves use bad quality hair and this type usually goes bad after a few days. To spot these bad qualities, avoid labels that are not known, and are claiming to be a Yaki or a Remi.

Remi is usually the best as they come in virgin unprocessed hair and processed hair. This means that they last longer and can be used for up to 3 times.

What is Remi?

Remi unlike Yaki is a method or process of making weaves. They do this by collecting hair from donors ensuring that the cuticles of the hair are not stripped. Also with Remi, the hair is aligned in one direction making the hair flow smoother.

Remi hair weave resists tangling, and maintains its look for a much longer period of time.

Types of Hair Weaves in the market

Indian Hair Weaves

This comes from the women of India, or Pakistan. Indian Remi is the most popular since it comes in a variety of colors and lengths. Indian hair is also known and preferred owing to its versatility and thick texture. It can be straight, wavy and quite curly.

Brazilian Hair Weaves

This is my favorite. They are usually thick, wavy, very fine, soft and comes in a variety of colours. They are also very easy to manage and can be easily styled. Brazilian hair is usually more expensive than Chinese or Indian Hair which are usually more common.

Malaysian Hair Weaves

Malaysian hair weaves are usually very soft and silky and have a great variety of colour unlike Chinese hair. Malaysian hair is known to be very straight and fine. Africans love these as they are very easy to manage due to its straight nature.

Chinese Hair Weaves

Chinese Hair is the one commonly found in the market. Their hair is usually very coarse and straight. Some people have issues with Chinese hair weaves owing to the techniques used to get the strands and hair. Chinese hair weaves is usually dipped in an acid bath to make it more thinner and straight. This means that this type of hair never lasts long and frizzles quite easily.

European Hair Weaves

This type of hair is very rare as most Europeans are not keen on cutting and selling off their hair. Any blonde, Red head or Sandy coloured weaves claiming to be European have to have originated from one of the European countries. Anything else, is usually dyed Chinese hair and not good. European hair tends to be quite expensive.

When Indian Remy is washed a black dye comes out. If you see this dye when washing Virgin Indian Remy or any other Virgin Hair it is NOT Virgin Hair.  Some companies try to sell hair to customers that is not Virgin claiming that it is.

With so many brands claiming to have Virgin Remy hair and with the hefty price tag that the label carries, it is important to be able to tell if the hair you are purchasing truly is 100% Virgin Remy Hair. At its most basic level, the term “remy” is used to describe hair that has been selected root end first from one single donor. The cuticles are kept intact and each hair strand is facing one direction.

1. Pin up all the hair including the baby hairs into a ponytail.

2. Apply the Lace Release to the adhesive around the perimeter of the hairline. Leave it for a few minutes, then gradually remove the lace. Apply more lace release if necessary. You can substitute alcohol if you don’t have Lace Releaser.

3. Apply the Citrus base Cleaner, to clean the excess glue on your unit and your skin. You can also substitute this with olive oil.

4. Remove the glue embedded in the lace unit before washing. Or wiping it with on a mirror or a smooth surface.

You should only uses approved products on your lace wig.

• Use only Lace Wig Care Products that are made specifically to protect and repair the natural Remy human hair and the lace.

• These wig care products consisting of adhesives, tapes, shampoos, conditioners, styling aids, detangling treatments, cleaners and knot sealers.

• These products and wig accessories are effective and will not damage the lace wig. With regular use, they will enhance the beauty and extend the life of your lace wig.

• It’s very important that when you are attaching and removing your lace wig you use the right adhesive and removers. This will reduce hair loss from the lace wig and will prevent your own natural hair from breaking. Treat your lace wig with care

• Your lace wigs must be treated with care. You must use only dedicated and specially formulated wig care products on you lace wig, like shampoos, conditioners.

• Often you may come across certain products, which are advertised as being mild and delicate like baby care products for example. These are definitely not suitable for your wigs. They may actually make your wig dull, flat and lifeless

Helpful Tips

1.)Don’t push lace down with your fingers into the glue. The hair will stick and get matted up. Use the teeth of of wide tooth comb and press it flat against your scalp.

2.)Don’t reapply glue to area with glue already, the glue will not stick to an old previously glued surface. Area must be cleaned first, then reapply.

*Your unit should have a natural look.

*no glue should be visible on your forehead.

*Your baby hairs should not be stuck to your face with glue.

Curly weave looks very nice and fits almost every face shape.

But its allot harder to take care of than the straight and wavy weave.

When buying a curly weave try and stick to virgin hair, even if it is Indian hair or Brazilian hair, as virgin hair has not been processed much so doesn’t have any chemical damage so will not tangle easily.

To maintain curly weave follow the instructions below:

Plait it into into one or two pony tails when going to bed, don’t sleep with it  like that as when you wake up it will be in a tangled mess and if you keep doing this for a long period of time it will make the hair shed quicker and tangle.

Before styling your curly hair spritz with a bit of water or use a leave in hair conditioner and detangler and style. NB: for best results you can use water every day on it but  using leave in hair products should be every other day or twice a week as this builds up in the hair over time so will need to be washed out.

Try and not  dye or bleach curly hair  too much as this can weaken the hair and cause it to shed.

use a width tooth comb on it and just put your finger through it, do not use a brush  on it as this will make it shed.

How do I Choose the correct Lace Colour?

You want to match the lace colour with your scalp complexion not your skin tone. This is because when you part the unit, you want it to appear as your natural scalp colour. So to check your scalp colour-part your hair and look at the colour of your scalp to determine your lace colour.
