Revive Your Lace Wig

Do you own a full lace wig that is matted, shedding, tangled, and poofy?   Have you spent hundreds of dollars on full lace wigs only to have them end up looking like a rat’s nest?   Do you need to revive a full lace wig for a special event because you don’t have the money to splurge on a new one?   Have you abused your full lace wig and want to turn things around?   If you have answered yes to any of these questions then your full lace wig help is here. Full lace wigs are versatile, convenient, and offer an alternative to hair extensions.   Even though there are many perks that come with full lace wigs, maintenance is somewhat of a downfall.   Full lace wigs last up to three years on average, however, with time, use, and abuse, your once glorious full lace wig is now anything but which leaves you wondering, what can I do to give my full lace wig life and beauty again?   Well here is a list of options to revive your shedding, matted, tangled, frizzy full lace wigs with some much needed TLC.

Bleach Bath

If you have a tangled, matted mess of a full lace wig then this method is for you.   It may seems strange to put bleach and ammonia on hair but trust me, once you try it, it will be your go to method for detangling deeply matted hair.

Things you will need:

Ammonia
Clorox Brand Bleach
Clarifying Shampoo
Conditioner
Hot Tap Water
Large Basin
Wide Tooth Comb or Detangling Brush
Rubber Gloves

STEPS

  • Put on rubber gloves before starting the process.
  • If you have a stainless steel sink, you should use it for the bleach and ammonia portion of the process.  Apply one gallon of hot tap water into a large basin or sink.   The water should be extremely hot but not boiling.
  • Add ¼ cup of Clorox bleach into the gallon of water.   For severely matted hair, double the amount of Clorox bleach to ½ cup per one gallon of hot tap water.
  • Submerge the full lace wig into the bleach solution and begin to detangle with a wide tooth comb or detangling brush for a period of no more than 3 minutes.
  • After 3 minutes has expired, remove the wig from the solution.
  • Using a clarifying shampoo mixed in a small basin of warm water, swish the full lace wig in the solution to remove the bleach and water residue.   During this time, drain the water and bleach from the sink or basin.   Continue to brush or comb through the hair to keep it from tangling during the process.
  • Refill your basin or sink with three cups of hot water.
  • Next, add ¼ cup of ammonia and add it to the three cups of hot water.   For severely tangled or matted hair, double this amount to ½ of ammonia per three cups of hot water.
  • Submerge the hair into the ammonia and water solution using a dipping/dunking motion for a few times (no more than 1 to 2 minutes) while gently combing/brushing through the hair on the wig.
  • Follow up with the same water and clarifying shampoo mix to remove the ammonia from the hair.
  • Rinse the wig thoroughly with water.
  • Deep condition the hair with a moisturizing conditioner or silicon mix.   You can also place the wig into a zip lock bag in the microwave for ten seconds.   You can also place a hot steamed towel over the bag if you do not feel comfortable placing your wig into the microwave.
  • Let the hair air dry and enjoy tangle free hair.

NB: WARNING:   Using the bleach bath may weaken the knots.   Seal the knots before and after using the bleach bath method.   Also, try to perform this method with the wig on a wig head if possible.

Difference between handtied wefts and machine wefts

A hand-tied weft is essentially a seam that holds all of the base ends of the hair together and is manually woven into the weave by a human and custom attention is given to each weave.

A machine weft is hair that is fed into a machine and weaved tightly into the seam, this happens in a manner similar to that of the sewing machine.

So what are the benefits of a hand-tied weft you ask?
Firstly, the hand-tied weft is usually significantly slimmer than the standard machine-tied weft and the slimmer the weft the easier it is to hide and less-likely for someone to detect if they touch your head. Hair that is machine-wefted tends to be bulkier because the weave itself needs to be hefty so the machine can get a good enough hold of the hair. This is an important factor because no-one wants anyone to see or feel their weave; it is the horrid tell sign of hair extensions.
Secondly, another great benefit of hand-tied hair extensions is that the hair on a hand-tied weft is much more securely attached to the weft. This means that each strand of hair will remain attached to the weft much longer than their counterparts which are machine-sewn. Hair from hand-tied wefts does not shred because of this and therefore the hair extensions last longer. They don’t thin out like machine-wefted hair extensions therefore have a much longer life span.
The Limitations of hand-tied wefts are that it is recommended that the weft is not cut; you have to use the whole piece without cutting it. If the weft exceeds the needed length of the targeted track, then merely fold over the end and double-up the weft to the length that is needed. If the hand-tied weft gets cut, the weft will unravel. To save the hair you will have to try and seal the cut weft with some sort of clear liquid super glue or try and create a new knot which is a very intricate process and usually a step that requires the skill of an expert.
Our hand-tied wefts come in strips which are not usually more than in 10-inch widths (from one end of the weft to the other end), so there is not usually a need to double up, but if you do have to do so the end result is still a fairly flat finish.
Another limitation of hand-tied wefts are that due to the slimness of the weft, you can only really sew in the tracks, bonding the glue to the slim weft without getting any on the hair is quite a challenge and can be quite messy. Despite these limitations we highly recommend hand-tied wefts, our suppliers are specialists in hand-tying and knotting and have taken the craft to a whole new level. Anyone who sees our beautifully made wefts agree that they are truly an art form. Our wefts are strong, secure, and don’t shed or become hard and sticky.

Funmi Hair is it Worth it or Not?

With the hair industry in nigeria growing at an alarming rate, this has brought about various hair brands selling human hair.

One of the most popular brands at the moment is Aunty Funmi Hair.

This is a top range brand which mainly has to do with the cost as it can only be afforded by the rich.

Is the quality of the hair worth the hype? Well yes the quality is good, doesn’t shed much or Tangle, but you can get similar virgin hair which doesn’t shed or tangle for alot cheaper.

Aunty funmi hair is good quality HUMAN HAIR..but only thing that sets it apart from regular brazilian hair is that it is treated to make it look different.

How to apply a lace wig

There are two ways to apply your lace wig:

1. You can use tapes or glue to apply the wig. You will need double sided tape, scissor,  clips, cosmetic sponge, alcohol, a Q-tip or spatula, a skin protector, the adhesive, adhesive remover, wig cap ( if you prefer to wear one) and a silk or satin scarf.

Use a liquid adhesive that is suitable for human skin –  You can use a wig cap which should be a little lighter than your complexion to keep your hair and hairline in one place. Otherwise braid, wrap or pin curl your hair to keep it in place.

Clean your hairline and in front of your hairline all around with a cosmetic sponge containing alcohol. Wait until it dries.

Apply the skin protector in front of your hairline all around your head and wait until it dries.

Clip the baby hair and the hair backwards away from the perimeter of the lace wig, so that the lace is fully shown. Cut off the excess lace from around the perimeter, leaving at least one inch of lace around the perimeter with half inch on either side.

Fit the Lace wig on your head to find the center and a comfortable fit. You can use an eyebrow pencil to lightly trace around your hairline where you wish the wig to be positioned once it is bonded. Mark the center on your forehead. Take the lace wig off then apply the adhesive on your skin, in front of the hairline, right around your head with either the Q-tip, spatula or the adhesive applicator in the bottle. Ensure that the adhesive is not applied to your hairline but in front of your hairline.

When the adhesive dries, or feels just a bit tacky, place the wig on your head with the edges rolled back. Once you have positioned the wig according to your desired fit, release the edges of the lace and press gently all around the hairline. The adhesives cause zero damage to the hairline as long as an adhesive remover is used to remove the adhesive when taking off the wig. The Hair Therapy Adhesive is recommended for those with very sensitive skin.

Use a silk or satin scarf to tie around the edges until the adhesive is cured before styling.

2. Use a double sided tape – This method is more involved than the liquid adhesive. Prepare your head and lace wig as previously mentioned above. After cutting the tape into lengths of three inches, attach the tape firmly around the perimeter of your unit

Position the unit on your head, removing the backing of the tape, in sections, a little at at time.

Starting from the middle of your forehead at the hairline, firmly press the tape into your skin with a tail comb, working on one side and then on the next.

Use a silk or satin scarf to tie around the edges until the adhesive has set (according to the manufacturer set time) before styling.

How to remove a lace wig

1. Pin up all the hair including the baby hairs into a ponytail.

2. Apply the Lace Release to the adhesive around the perimeter of the hairline. Leave it for a few minutes, then gradually remove the lace. Apply more lace release if necessary.

3. Apply the Citrus base Cleaner, to clean the excess glue on your unit and your skin.

4. Remove the glue embedded in the lace unit before washing.

HOW TO PREVENT WEAVE SHEDDING

So, you have just gotten your hair done and now your weave is shedding. What do you do? We are here to help.

If you have a shedding weave, it is simply because the hair is slipping out of the track. This may be because the hair is silky straight or because the track is not tight enough. To prevent your weave from shedding, you will have to seal the weft before applying it.

You will need a sealant and it will need to be applied to the hair just below the weft ON BOTH SIDES. Allow the glue to completely dry before applying the weft to your hair.

If your weaving is shedding excessively, you might need to seal the weft while wearing the tracks. This is not recommended however it is the best way to ensure that your brand new weave is not ruined by becoming too thin. Section the hair so the entire track is exposed. Apply the glue and use a blow dryer (on low heat) to dry. Once the track is completely dried, you will need to go on to the next track until your entire head is completed. Please note that this will reduce the shedding however since only one side of the track is sealed, it might not prevent the weave from shedding completely

The Updo Craze!!!

At the moment Updos are so in, everyone from celebrities to the everyday person is sporting one. Its like everywhere you look you see one, so if you are one who likes to follow fashion, then below are a few nice updos.

NB: If your hair is  too short for an updo you can always braids it and have it up like beyonce.

What is a lace wig?

What is a lace wig or full lace wig?  Well as the name states a lace wig is a wig made with a lace base. When applied with adhesive or tape, the unit appears to be growing directly from the scalp. Full lace caps are so versatile that it can be worn in a high ponytail or any updo hairstyle. The hair can be dyed, curled and flat ironed. It never looks like a wig.

lace wigs are made by inserting strands of hairs in to the lace cap, this is a time consuming and delicate process and can take up to 5wks to make one unit as this is done by hand!!!.

Hence why they cost alot more than regular wigs.
